1961   (63 years today)

Ottawa Rough Riders’ General Manager, George Terlep, announced that he had signed contracts for the 1961 season from Russ Jackson and Ron Lancaster.

Angelo Mosca, a bruising 242-pound tackle with Ottawa Rough Riders will be making his second wrestling appearance at the Ottawa Auditorium next Tuesday night when he clashes with Baron Gattoni.


1967   (57 years today)

It was announced that the first game to be played with the re-built north and south side stands at Lansdowne Park will be a pre-season tilt against the Calgary Stampeders.  The first regular-season game will be played August 9 against the Edmonton Eskimos. (RRs won 28-25).

Ottawa Rough Riders 6 Press Corps 4 in a benefit hockey.  Riders’ goals were credited to Ted Collins, Russ Jackson, Doug Specht, Peter Thompson, Joe Poirier and Jim Dillard.  The Press goals came from Dan Kelly, Clem Kealey, Marcel Charlebois and Ernie Calcutt.


1989   (35 years today)

Damon Allen signed a three-year contract with the Ottawa Rough Riders.  It is estimated that he will be paid $170,000 a season.


1994   (30 years today)

Ottawa Rough Riders signed veteran defensive end John Kropke to a new two-year contract that will pay him $80,000 in 1994 and $85,000 in 1995. 


2004   (20 years today)

Three members of the Ottawa Renegades were named to the 2003 CFLPA All-Star team; Kicker Lawrence Tynes, safety Donnavan Carter and Head Coach Joe Paopao.  The three were joined with teammates named to the East Division All-Star team.  Tailback Josh Ranek, guard Val St. Germain, slotback Demetris Bendross, defensive tackle Jerome Haywood and linebacker Gerald Vaughn.


2005   (19 years today)

Ottawa Renegades signed receiver Markus Howell over competing offers from Winnipeg, Calgary, Hamilton and Saskatchewan.  He was signed to a one-year deal with a club option for a second season. 


2017   (7 years today)

Ottawa RedBlacks and defensive tackle Moton Hopkins agreed on a one-year contract to remain in Ottawa.



1952   (72 years today)

Jeff Turcotte, Ottawa Rough Riders’ offensive tackle from 1975 to 1980, born at Pembroke, Ontario.
